By making a booking, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions and agree to ensure that anyone attending The Mill as part of your booking follows the relevant studio rules.

We want The Mill to be a relaxed, welcoming and inspiring place to create. These terms are here to protect the studio, our guests and the people who work here.

2. Your booking

Your booking gives you use of The Mill Studio for the date, time and duration shown in your booking confirmation.
Your booked period includes all setup, preparation, shooting or activity time and pack-down.
Please allow enough time at the end of your session to return the studio to how you found it before your booking ends.
Bookings may not be transferred or resold to another person or business without our prior agreement.

3. Studio hire times

Please arrive at your booked start time. We cannot guarantee access before your booking begins.
The studio must be vacated by the end of your booked period.
If your session runs beyond your booked time, additional studio hire charges may apply where additional time is available.
An extension cannot be guaranteed, particularly where another booking follows yours.

4. Access to The Mill

The Mill Studio is located on the second floor of Nortonthorpe Mill and is accessed via stairs.
The person making the booking is responsible for ensuring that the studio is suitable and accessible for everyone attending as part of their booking.
If you or anyone attending has particular accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking so that these can be discussed.

5. Payment & confirmation

Unless otherwise agreed, payment is required at the time of booking.
Your booking is confirmed once the required payment has been successfully received and you have received booking confirmation from The Mill Studio.
The price shown during the booking process applies to the studio hire and any additional services selected at that time.
Any additional services requested after booking will be discussed and agreed with you before additional payment is required.

6. Cancellation & rescheduling

We understand that plans sometimes change.
Bookings may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the scheduled start time, subject to the options provided within your booking.
Where a booking is cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or you do not attend your booking, we reserve the right to retain an amount that reasonably reflects the losses resulting from the cancellation, including our ability to rebook the studio.
Please contact us as soon as possible if you know you will be unable to attend.
Nothing in these terms affects any cancellation, refund or other rights you may have under applicable consumer law.

7. If we need to cancel your booking

Very occasionally, circumstances outside our reasonable control may mean that The Mill cannot safely or reasonably provide the studio for your booking.
If we need to cancel, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and offer either an alternative date or a refund of the amount you have paid for the affected studio hire.
Nothing in this section limits any rights or remedies you may have under applicable law.

8. Using the studio

The Mill has intentionally been designed to be flexible, so you are welcome to move and style the space around your shoot or project.
Movable furniture, props and styling pieces may be repositioned, but they must be handled carefully and returned to their original positions before you leave.
Please lift rather than drag furniture wherever reasonably possible to protect the studio flooring.
Nothing may be permanently attached to walls, floors, furniture or fixtures.

Please ask us before using:
- glitter or loose confetti;
- smoke or haze effects;
- candles or naked flames;
- paint, dyes or staining materials;
- adhesives or fixings;
- liquids or materials likely to damage the studio; or
- anything else that may create unusual mess, damage or safety risks.

Prior permission may be refused where we reasonably believe an activity could damage the studio or create a safety risk.

9. Prohibited & explicit content

The Mill Studio is intended to be a welcoming, professional and inclusive creative space.
The studio must not be used to create pornographic, sexually explicit or obscene photography, video or other content, or for activities of an explicitly sexual nature.
Artistic, fashion, maternity, boudoir or implied-nude photography may be permitted where it is tasteful, non-explicit and appropriate to a professional creative studio environment. If you are unsure whether a planned shoot falls within this, please contact us before booking.

The studio must not be used for:
- pornographic or sexually explicit content or activity;
- illegal activity or the creation of unlawful content;
- content involving exploitation, abuse or sexualisation of children or vulnerable people;
- violent, threatening, hateful or discriminatory activity or content;
- activities involving illegal drugs or other prohibited substances; or
- any activity that we reasonably consider presents a serious risk to people, the premises or the reputation and operation of The Mill Studio.

If the studio is used for a prohibited purpose, we reserve the right to stop the activity and terminate the booking immediately. Where a booking is terminated because of a serious breach of this section, any refund will be considered in accordance with applicable law and the circumstances of the breach.

10. Damage, loss & additional charges

The person making the booking is responsible for taking reasonable care of The Mill Studio and its furniture, equipment, props and facilities during the hire period.
Accidents happen, so please tell us promptly if anything has been damaged, broken or lost.
Where damage or loss results from misuse, negligence or failure to follow these Terms & Conditions, you may be responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.
Where exceptional cleaning is required because of the way the studio has been used, you may also be responsible for the reasonable additional cleaning cost.
Where we believe an additional charge is necessary, we will explain what has happened and, where reasonably possible, provide appropriate evidence of the cost before seeking payment.
We do not impose arbitrary damage penalties.

11. Studio equipment

Where lighting, stands, modifiers, backdrop equipment or other studio equipment is included or made available during your hire, it must be used appropriately and for its intended purpose.
If you are unsure how to operate something safely, please ask before using it.
Studio equipment must not be dismantled, modified or removed from the premises without permission.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the knowledge and competence necessary to use any professional equipment you choose to use.

12. Backdrops

Please take reasonable care when using studio backdrops.
Shoes should be clean before stepping onto backdrop surfaces.
Furniture, props and equipment should not be positioned in a way likely to tear, puncture or unnecessarily mark the backdrop.
Normal wear associated with reasonable studio use is expected. Where avoidable or excessive damage occurs because of misuse or negligence, you may be responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.

13. Furniture, props & accessories

Furniture, fabrics, vases, plinths, shelving, floristry displays and other studio props and accessories are provided for creative use within The Mill.
Please handle them carefully and return them to their original locations when you have finished.
Studio furniture, props, accessories and equipment must not be removed from The Mill without our prior permission.

14. Babies & newborn photography

The Mill may provide specialist posing equipment, including our inflatable newborn posing nest.
This equipment is provided as a creative resource and does not replace appropriate newborn photography training or safe working practices.
The photographer undertaking the session remains responsible for determining safe and appropriate posing practices and for the safe conduct of their photography session.
Babies and children must be appropriately supervised at all times.

15. Children

Children are very welcome at The Mill.
They must, however, be appropriately supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Children must not climb on lighting equipment, stands, backdrop systems, windows, furniture or props that are not intended for climbing or play.
The person making the booking is responsible for ensuring appropriate supervision throughout their hire.

16. Workshops, courses, masterclasses & events

The Mill may be hired for workshops, courses, masterclasses, creative gatherings and other agreed activities.
If you hire The Mill to provide your own workshop, course, event or other service, you remain responsible for the activity you provide and for ensuring that it is delivered safely and lawfully.
This includes obtaining any licences, permissions, qualifications, risk assessments or insurance appropriate to your activity.
Independent hosts should maintain appropriate public liability insurance and any relevant professional insurance for the services or activities they provide.
We may request evidence of appropriate insurance before your booking takes place.
Please discuss unusual activities, specialist equipment or activities carrying additional risk with us before booking.

17. Food, drink & alcohol

Food and non-alcoholic drinks may be brought into and consumed within appropriate areas of The Mill.
Please take particular care around studio equipment, electrical equipment, fabrics, furniture and backdrops, and clean spills promptly.
If you intend to provide catering, sell food or drink, serve or sell alcohol, or undertake an activity that may require a licence or other permission, please discuss this with us before booking.
The hirer is responsible for ensuring that any food, drink or alcohol-related activity they provide complies with applicable legal requirements.

18. Number of guests

The number of people attending must be appropriate for the nature of the booking and the safe use of the studio.
Please provide an accurate expected number of attendees when requested.
Larger productions, workshops, courses and events should be agreed with The Mill in advance and must comply with any applicable safe occupancy limit for the premises.

19. Your belongings & equipment

You are responsible for cameras, lenses, computers, equipment, personal belongings and other property you bring into The Mill.
We will take reasonable care in operating and maintaining the studio, but we are not responsible for loss of or damage to your property where this has not resulted from our negligence or breach of our legal obligations.
Professional users should ensure that valuable equipment is appropriately insured.

20. Insurance

Professional photographers, videographers, businesses and other commercial users are responsible for maintaining insurance appropriate to their activities.
If you are independently hosting a workshop, course, masterclass or event involving third parties, we may require evidence of appropriate public liability and/or professional insurance.
The Mill Studio maintaining its own insurance does not replace a hirer's responsibility to maintain insurance appropriate to their own professional activities.

21. Behaviour & respect for the building

The Mill is located within Nortonthorpe Mill alongside other businesses and occupants.
Please behave respectfully while entering, leaving and using the building and avoid causing unreasonable noise, obstruction or disturbance to other occupants.
Dangerous, unlawful, abusive or seriously disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.
Where behaviour creates a genuine safety risk, causes serious disruption or involves unlawful activity, we may require the person concerned to leave and, where necessary, end the booking.

22. Photography, filming & permissions

You are responsible for obtaining any model releases, parental permissions, client permissions or other consents required for the photography, filming or content you create.
The Mill Studio does not claim ownership of photographs, video or other creative work simply because it was created within the studio.
Please respect the privacy of other businesses and individuals within Nortonthorpe Mill.
Photography or filming outside The Mill Studio itself must not interfere with other occupants or take place within private or restricted areas without appropriate permission.

23. Behind-the-scenes content & photography

If you purchase behind-the-scenes content, live branding photography or another creative service from The Mill Studio, the scope and deliverables of that service will be agreed separately.
Any additional photography or content service is separate from the basic studio-hire agreement unless expressly included in your booking.

24. Health & safety

Everyone using The Mill must take reasonable care of themselves and others.
Please follow any reasonable safety instructions provided by us.
Fire exits, access routes and stairways must remain unobstructed.
Cables, lighting stands and other equipment should be positioned and secured appropriately to minimise trip and other hazards.
Any accident, hazard, damage or equipment fault should be reported to us as soon as reasonably possible.

25. Cleaning & leaving the studio

Normal cleaning following ordinary studio use is included in your hire.
Before leaving, please:
- return furniture, props and equipment to their original locations;
- remove belongings and materials you brought with you;
- dispose of your rubbish appropriately;
- clear food and drink; and
- leave the studio reasonably clean and tidy.
Your booked time includes this pack-down period.
Where the studio requires exceptional cleaning beyond normal use, we may recover the reasonable additional cost in accordance with section 9.

26. Our responsibility to you

We will provide The Mill Studio and any services included within your booking with reasonable care and skill.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

27. Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to restrict your rights under applicable UK consumer law.
Where you are booking as a consumer, you may have statutory rights in addition to those set out in these terms.

28. Privacy

Personal information provided in connection with your booking will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Our use of cookies and similar technologies on our website is explained in our Cookie Policy.

29. Changes to these terms

The Studio Hire Terms & Conditions applicable to your booking are those provided or made available to you when your booking is made.
We may update these terms for future bookings as the studio, our services or legal requirements change.

30. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Nothing in this provision affects any mandatory rights a consumer may have concerning where legal proceedings may be brought.
